What it is
Prominent ears usually come from a missing fold in the cartilage or a deep bowl of the ear. Otoplasty reshapes the cartilage so the ear sits closer to the head.
How it is done
The incision is behind the ear, where the scar is hidden. The cartilage is shaped and held with stitches. Both ears are usually treated in the same operation.
Who it is for
- Children from about 6 years old and adults
- People with ears that stand out from the head
- People bothered by the shape of the ear fold
Recovery
- Week 1
- A head bandage for the first days, then a headband.
- Weeks 1 to 6
- The headband is worn at night to protect the ears.
- Month 3
- The final shape settles.
