Istanbul Guide
A week in the city while you recover. Where to walk, what to see and what to leave for your next visit.
Most patients spend a week to ten days in Istanbul. The first days are for rest at the hotel. From the third or fourth day, short walks and quiet places are usually fine.
The clinic is in Etiler, close to the Bosphorus. The places below are chosen for calm days: little walking on hills, few crowds and somewhere to sit.
Your week
- Days 1 to 2
- Rest at the hotel with your head raised. Short walks in the room or the lobby.
- Days 3 to 5
- Short outings: a café, a walk by the water, a ferry ride.
- Days 6 to 7
- Check-up and splint removal at the clinic. A quiet museum or a slow walk.
- After the splint
- More walking is fine. Crowded places and long days are better for your next visit.
Calm places
-
01Bebek and the Bosphorus shore
From day 3
A flat walk along the water with cafés, close to the clinic. Public ferries cross the Bosphorus from nearby piers.
-
02Nişantaşı
From day 3
Shops, cafés and wide pavements. Easy to reach by taxi from both partner hotels.
-
03Galata and Karaköy
From day 5
Galleries, the Istanbul Modern museum by the sea and the Galata Tower. Some streets are steep: take a taxi to the top.
-
04Cihangir
From day 5
Quiet streets with small cafés and views over the Bosphorus.
-
05Grand Bazaar and Spice Bazaar
After the splint
Busy and crowded. Better after the splint is off, or on your next visit.
In the first weeks, avoid
- Hammam, sauna and steam rooms
- Swimming in the sea or the pool
- Strong sun on the face; wear a wide hat
- Glasses resting on the nose
- Crowds where the nose can be knocked
- Lifting heavy luggage; ask for help at the airport
